Methodology

Using a traditional speech therapy learning approach of ear training, sound discrimination and modeling, we are able to easily facilitate the individual's ability to learn English proficiently during corporate verbal communication. The goal for each participant is to increase their verbal English awareness to allow for clear and correct speech. Trainees will learn English proficiency to effectively communicate with confidence and speak with authority, use their voice in a persuasive manner and exude an overall sense that they possess a strong command of the English language.

Our verbal skills training focuses on improving spoken English skills and will efficiently and successfully aid in the capability of the trainees to learn English pronunciations, learn American intonations, formations, rhythms and expressions. No matter what country they are from, or what their native language, our American English pronunciation techniques will transform the way they speak English. Incorporating a therapeutic style with proven clinical learning methods, the Pronunciation Workshop® curriculum provides a solid, effective means to learn English proficiently and for building effective language and verbal communication skills. We know that to learn English, language learners who are learning American English, achieve greater results when they are actively engaged in rich, comprehensible, interactive learning opportunities.

Guided Discovery

The Pronunciation Workshop® learning and training process provides both a metric for determining the areas in which a person struggles to learn English proficiency and with effective communication in American English, a learning path for instruction and the constructive feedback to facilitate improvement.

The assessment process begins by interviewing the participant and completing a phonemic inventory of their individual speech errors and communicative habits. Here we discover the areas of weakness which require intervention. This initial step provides a diagnosis of an individual's inaccuracies and a prescription for corrective measures.

Learning Process

We then are able to map out a full learning plan, determined by the client's level of learned English proficiency. Each participant receives training in an enthusiastic and motivating environment and is able to learn English skills that affect their verbal communication. The trainer will also give feedback and recommend an action plan for study tips and practice, designed to form positive communication habits. Instruction to learn English Pronunciation does not typically go beyond 19 total learning hours.

Self Evaluation Assessment Tool - serves to disclose each individual's thoughts and feelings about their verbal skills, learned English proficiency and current level of intelligibility.

Individual Target Goals - from a diagnostic vantage point of the individual's specific strengths, weaknesses and verbal skill level we are able to determine a benchmark, set goals and target dates and furthermore track those objectives to reveal measurable results for them to learn English pronunciation correctly.

Prescriptive Speech Improvement Plan - detailed report indicating the corrective course to be taken in training sessions to produce clear, correct, confident and intelligible speech. This guide will serve in helping the individual focus on the required areas needing attention to attain rapid results and sustain long-term language acquisition.

Instructional Approach

The innovative approach of our spoken English training involves Pronunciation Workshop's® inventive American English Pronunciation and Accent Reduction Methods. We are unique in the fact that we do not use any phonetic symbols, diagrams, graphs or charts to assist in training an individual to learn English proficiency. Ours is a simple, look-listen-and-learn approach using straightforward instruction to produce clear and noticeable results.

Many of the difficulties non-native speakers of English have when learning English, is the interference of speech habits they have internalized from their mother tongue. In their past English classes they probably did not learn English, spoken in its natural sound and style, or more importantly, the way the speech organs must be formed to create the proper sounds. Our research has shown that there are large categories of speech errors that all or most of our students have in common when they learned English. We use a statistical and rather organized approach to this problem.

Multi-Sensory Learning: Rather than starting out with alphabet lists, phonemic symbols, and complicated linguistic explanations and pronunciation features, we believe in a simple and easy to follow multisensory approach. Using this learning style, students improve their verbal communication skills quickly through aural and visual processing as well as the deployment of tactile techniques.

Pacing: Motivation suffers if the pacing is too fast or too slow. Appropriate pacing optimizes both motivation and learning. Pronunciation Workshop's® programs encompass a self-directed and self-paced video course along with systematic instructor-led training set within a practical timeframe for optimal results to learn English proficiency.

Repetition: Accent reduction and English Pronunciation learning is not a linear process; it requires repetitive use and routine practice. For this reason, Pronunciation Workshop® provides multiple opportunities to help learn English vocal sounds and better assimilate their newly acquired skills.

Inductive and Deductive Learning: To learn English with deductive learning, learners are presented with a general rule to apply to specific spellings and word groups. To learn English in inductive learning, learners focus on specific auditory errors and articulatory weaknesses, and are given examples and demonstrations on how to re-shape and produce these sounds correctly.
