Vowel Sound Combination of A and E as in Age or Train

 
The /ae/ vowel sound combination is made by pronouncing the two individual sounds of the long A and the long E together.
 
  The /ae/ sound can be written though with a variety of letters, as in the following:

a - - - - - - - - - - - April, cable, lady, paper, station, famous

a + final e - - - - - - same, page, age, make, mistake

ai - - - - - - - - - - - wait, remain, raise, brain, afraid, fail

ay - - - - - - - - - - - day, say, away, maybe, lay

aigh - - - - - - - - - - straight

eigh - - - - - - - - - - eight, weigh, neighbor, freight
 
ea - - - - - - - - - - -break, great, steak

ei - - - - - - - - - - - vein, veil
